Hahnville Hospice Care

Physician Managed Hospice Care Serving Hahnville

The people that live in and around Hahnville are well known for their sense of community, caring nature, and strong family values. When tough times come, the citizens of Hahnville have a history of coming together and helping one another, just as they did when Katrina rained destruction upon Louisiana’s communities.  Regrettably, life itself is full of storms, and while the weather cause most storms, others are just part of life. None more devastating than when someone we care for develops an incurable illness. Still, these storms happen to each of us. Inevitably, we will all have to cope with the death of the people we love because all of our lives will ultimately come to its end.

When a loved one is coming to the end of their life’s journey, many of us are poorly prepared and frequently at a loss as to where to look for the guidance we require to help us through this challenging and often unfamiliar part of life. In many instances, hospice care is the answer we are looking for to support us through the challenges of looking after our loved ones full-time.

Most Hahnville natives probably believe that hospice is a place which people go to die. However, hospice isn’t a place, and it is not about dying. In reality, hospice is a compassionate, holistic medical care that improves the quality of life for the people in our care and their families. It also makes it possible for individuals with a life-limiting condition to lead the best quality of life possible with the time that they have been given.

Hospice also allows people approaching the end of their lives to continue to live in Hahnville and remain in their homes with their loved ones near them. In fact, almost ninety percent of the people that embrace hospice as a treatment method continue to stay in their residences up until their passing. It does not matter if they live in a house, a retirement community, or an apartment in Hahnville because hospice is almost always conducted in a patient’s home, regardless of the place they call home. Hospice Associates’ experienced staff will come to your Hahnville home and administer the compassionate care you or your loved one requires, and we will do it when you or your loved one needs it, any time, day or night. Hospice Associates is no more than a phone call away.

A Nurse's Perspective

The Heart of Hahnville Hospice Care

How is it that one word can create so much fear?
Why could one particular word often cause people to cringe?
One word that most people never hope to hear…

That word is HOSPICE, and it’s not nearly as scary as some may make it out to be. In fact, hospice isn’t something people should fear… it is something we should all welcome.

Hospice was originally a home for those with a fatal illness– a place where the dying would go to live out the remainder of their lives. These days hospice is no longer viewed as a place. Instead, it is now thought of as a medical service that provides comfort and care to patients in their homes. Whether that home is inside a nursing home, assisted living facility, a member of the families’ house, or their own home. Hospice can be provided to patients irrespective of the location they refer to as home.

Among the leading myths concerning hospice I’ve run into is that a lot people commonly believe hospice care is reserved exclusively for people that only have a few days left to live. The fact is hospice becomes accessible when a physician tells their patient that their condition is terminal and a cure is no longer possible.

My personal experience as a hospice nurse have offered me the opportunity to experience the blessing of what hospice care offers to a family. Among the many things I commonly learn from family members is that they wish they would have known hospice was available long before they did. I think this is because hospice reduces the burden placed on the family and gives them peace of mind. Once they understand the relief hospice offers, families can begin to enjoy the short time they have left with the ones they love.

I think this is because the more quickly hospice is offered to a patient’s family, the sooner they can let go of the stress and fear of being the only ones offering care to their loved one. And once they understand the freedom hospice provides, they have the ability to begin appreciating the short time they have left with their loved one.

Hospice Offers An Education.

We help walk families through every aspect of the disease process, so they can understand how disease will advance and what they can come to expect. Then when things arise, we are available to answer all of their questions and tend to any concerns they may have. With this knowledge and understanding, families shed the fear of the unfamiliar and are provided the resources they require to help their loved ones through the process of dying.

Hospice Offers Comfort

This is not only for our patients but also for their family members. Comfort is a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint. Hospice offers hospice patients as well as families with spiritual, psychosocial, and physical comfort. Pain can be caused by many different things, however, it is not restricted to merely bodily pain.

Hospice Offers Closure

Hospice care also helps to remove the restraints you may feel your disease has placed on you. Our objective is for you to be comfortable and live each moment you have left to the fullest with your loved ones.
